6:00 PM - 6:30 PM    Learn-to-Skate at Gardner Park - Itty-Bitty Skaters (PK-Grade 2)
Learn-to-Skate lessons at Gardner Park are introductory programs that help brand new skaters gain confidence and learn the basic skill of ice skating. Children will learn how to move on ice, improve balance and coordination. Lessons are taught by local instructors who are very experienced skaters and have a desire to work with children.Skill LevelWhile all are welcome to participate, Learn-to-Skate lessons are geared toward children who have little or no experience on skates. EquipmentAll participants must wear a helmet while participating in skating lessons at Gardner Memorial Park. Additional equipment (elbow pads, knee pads, hand/wrist guards, hockey shorts etc.) are not mandatory, but they do help eliminate the fear of falling in young skaters, which is one of the biggest reasons children give-up on the skill. Children who are properly equipped with safety gear tend to develop confidence more quickly and will have an easier time sticking with the program.  We recommend bringing your own skates,  if you need skates please contact us at info@newportrecreation.org as soon as possible to reserve skates (smaller sizes are limited).*informational for parents providing skates: hockey skates provide more ankle support than a figure skate does and children tend to learn better when wearing hockey skates rather than figure skates.  If choosing figure skates, they should have a stiff boot.RATES$40 per childSpace is limited for these sessions and will fill up fast!ALL DATES ARE WEATHER DEPENDANT Itty-Bitty Skaters   (PK-Grade 2)Dates:  1/21, 1/23, 1/28, 1/30Time: 6:00-6:30Foul Weather Date: TBD*Parents are expected to be on the ice (in boots or skates), and available during the Itty-Bitty skating program to support your child(ren). Junior Skaters (Grades 3-5)Date:   1/21, 1/23, 1/28, 1/30Time: 6:45-7:15Foul Weather Date: TBDBantam Skaters  (Grades 6-up)Date: 1/21, 1/23, 1/28, 1/30Time:  7:30-8:00Foul Weather Date: TBD
